Super Exciting Fun Time News!

Guess what, guys! I have a super-awesome special announcement for you guys! Starting tomorrow, everything in my shop is 25% off! And the sale is lasting two whole weeks!

I'm so happy about this, I can almost forget about the horrendous project I'm working on. A) It's a group project, so a lot of my grade depends on the competence of other people. And B) It's a 30 to 40 minute presentation on standardized testing. My third of the project is about standardized testing and disabilities. It may sound interesting, but it's not. And C) It's due Tuesday and I'm a lazy bum so I just started researching.

But! It's ok, because I'm going to stop working on it for tonight anyway. I'm about two thirds of the way through it, and what's due on Tuesday is just a draft. So, win!

PS. When I google image searched "standardized test" I found a surprising number of political cartoons. This picture just made me giggle. It's from this webcomic called Same Shirt, Different Day, which I have just decided is super rad! And incredibly adorable!

Chunesy Chuesdays

I'm toying with the idea of starting a few features; let me know what you think.

Chunes? What are chunes, you may ask.

Terrific question!

Chunes (n) are tunes that are so feelgood as to become chunes. My boyfriend and his friends use this word almost religiously to describe one hit wonders-type, so bad they're good songs. He has a playlist on his iPod called Now that's what I call Chunes. I'm going to appropriate his word to anything I feel like listening to at the moment.

This first tune, however, is chunes at its finest. Lean on Me by Club Nouveau.

Number two: Addicted to Love, covered by Florence and the Machine

So you guys should check out this music.

These guys (or at least the one of them that I know) go to my school. Figured I'd post it here and do my part in supporting new musicians.

They're actually pretty good. Some of it is a bit metal-ish and jagged for me, but I quite like it as a whole. Their EP is available for free download on their website. Or for streaming on their myspace.

What I've Been Up To

Sorry, guys, about the lack of blogging. I have a couple minutes before I have to go to class, so here's a quick list of what I've been doing the past week or so.

I'm in the middle of Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. It's very, erm, Catholic. And very Irish. Not that that's a bad thing! It's just that sometimes I feel like I'm missing out on meaning because I don't know much about Ireland or Catholicism. Luckily, my boyfriend is both, so he can clear me up on some matters.

Last night I went and saw The Social Network. Very good. Really interesting. I recommend.

I'm also in the middle of watching Lawrence of Arabia. I'm only half an hour into it, but it's much better than I expected. A lot of the movies I have left on my to-read this semester list are older, and I put off watching them because I think they're not going to be that good, but I forget that they're in the top 50 movies ever for a reason!

I'm also knitting. I can't divulge too many details because I don't want a certain person who reads my blog to know about it, but I will say it's green and cabled.

That's all for now, folks! I'll try to be good and post more!

Here's my deal: I want to do everything. Everything just sounds so fun, so why would I say no? I do a lot of stuff. Too much stuff. I really like it while I'm doing it. But I gripe and moan about having to do this and that and not having time to do what I really want.

So I'm trying to do less. Today I quit my on-campus job as a tour guide because I decided the amount of work I do for them wasn't work the $20 (on average) monthly paycheck. For instance, today I had to rearrange my plans to do a 4:00 tour for the board of trustees. Only to wait around in the library for fifteen minutes before being told that the tour got moved to an earlier time so I wasn't needed. For another instance, every Tuesday I walk across campus, get told I'm not needed, then walk back across campus to my apartment. It's a really productive way for me to spend my time. And I had to do 12 hours of "volunteer work" for them before I could even start getting paid. To do the exact same stuff I had been doing for free.

But I digress. I don't want this post to be an angry rant about my school's admissions office.

I don't know, I just feel somewhat out of sorts, and I don't know what to do to fix it. Sometimes I'm so tired of all the stuff I do that I want to sleep for a week, and sometimes I want to do everything. I guess that's just life.

Guest What! 100th Post!

Hey guys! This is my hundredth blog post. Cool, huh?

Rather than summarize my last week, I'll just tell you the exciting thing I just came from!

Vagina Monologues auditions!

I think I did really well. This is the only year I'll be in the show, since I produced it last year and I'm going to be a director next year.

For those of you familiar with the show, I'm shooting for the "Because He Liked To Look At It" monologue. It's one of my favorites. It's just so fun!

Tuesday, October 5

I'm sick, so that means I can be grumpy.

I've blown my nose about a million times today and I can't stop sneezing and my head feels full of fluff.

One of the girls I live with talks to her boyfriend every night on speakerphone so I have to listen to both sides of their whiny conversations-slash-arguments. Really it's like one and a half sides because he sounds like the adults in Peanuts.

And this morning I woke up at 6 am, and my alarm was set for 8:30. I swear, my body's all like, "Oh, you need to rest? How about not being able to sleep at all? How d'you like them apples?"

I do not like them, Sam I Am. I'm going to sleep for ten flipping hours tonight. Just try and stop me.

Really, though, I'm fine. I hate being negative because I don't want everyone to be all like, "oh, honey, are you ok?" It's just nice to vent. I really enjoy complaining. What trips me up is when I'm just bitching for the sake of bitching and someone actually gives me concrete solutions to solve my problems. Really, I'm very chill with the way my life is right now. I don't actually want this girl to stop yammering on to her boyfriend night after night. Or if I do, I don't want to do anything about it. I don't want her to stop because of me.

So, yeah. Long, rambley post that likely doesn't make any sense.

I am too cool for school.

I don't know what I'm saying. This needs to end.

Baby You Can Drive My Car

Ahhhhhhhh so exciting! I passed my driving test today! So now I have a shiny new license!

This is a wonderful weekend! Yesterday I watched Machete with some peeps (which I ABSOLUTELY recommend!), today is driving day, and tomorrow is Matt's and my year and a half anniversary!

We're not doing anything special, just going out to eat. It's still going to be super fun, though.

I am in an ecstatic mood and nothing can bring me down! I want to give the whole world a hug! I want to end every sentence with an exclamation point!

What are you happy about this weekend? Share the love!
